Welcome to CAMDA Dressage

The Carl Asmis Memorial Dressage Association was organized in 1986 to promote the art and sport of dressage through study, discussion and training.  The name, CAMDA, was  chosen to recognize and memorialize the contributions of Colonel Asmis, one of the first and finest exponents of Dressage in this country. The contributions of the late Carl-Heinrich Asmis are legendary. Mr. Asmis, having emigrated to the U.S. from Germany in 1921, where he was a colonel in the German cavalry, was one of this country’s first dressage trainers. Col. Asmis studied dressage in Germany, under the dressage master Herr Alfred Ott.  After World War II, as dressage interest began to grow in the United States, Col. Asmis began giving clinics.  In 1947, Col. Asmis became an AHSA recognized judge.  In 1957, he served on the first AHSA Dressage committee, and in 1962, represented the United States at the FEI meeting in Berne, Switzerland where he was instrumental in writing the rules and regulations for equestrian competition of the 1964 Olympic Games.

CAMDA is a United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Region One Group Member Organization drawing most of its membership from the South Central Pennsylvania areas of York, Harrisburg and Carlisle, as well as from the Northern Maryland county of Baltimore.

CAMDA hosts five or more schooling shows in the local area each year, with the final show being a year end championship show.  This year, we are planning casual evening shows at member Ginger Parker's facility in Glen Rock, PA. These shows will be a place to get out and ride your test while having fun in a casual and supportive atmosphere. We also organize clinics and lectures and are in the process of building an extensive video library for our members.  Our young rider program is impressive in its growth and success.  Each year, CAMDA club members participate in the Region One Adult Team Competition.
